RELIGION AND ART

When Pentecost day came round, they had all met in one room, when suddenly they heard what sounded like a powerful wind from heaven, the noise of which filled the entire house in which they were sitting; and something appeared to them that seemed like tongues of fire; these separate and came to rest on the head of each of them. They were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak foreign languages as the Spirit gave them the gift of speech. Mass Reading  Pentecost Sunday

Peter turned and saw the disciple following whom Jesus loved, the one who had also reclined upon his chest during the supper and said, "Master, who is the one who will betray you?" When Peter saw him, he said to Jesus, "Lord, what about him?" Jesus said to him, "What if I want him remain until I come? What concern is of yours?   You follow me." So the word spread among the brothers that, that disciple would not die.  But Jesus had not told him that he would  not die, just "What if I want him to remain until I come? What concern is it of yours?" It is this disciple who testifies to these things and written them, and we know that his testimony is true.  There are also many other things that Jesus did, but if these were to be described individually, I do not think the whole world would contain the books that would be written. Jesus showed himself to his disciples and after they had eaten he said to Simon Peter, 'Simon son of John, do you love me more that these others do? He answered, 'Yes Lord, you know I love you.' Jesus said to him, 'Feed my lambs.' A second time he said to him, 'Simon son of John, do you love me?' He replied, 'Yes, Lord, you know I love you'. Jesus said to him, 'Look after my sheep'. Then he said to him a third time, 'Simon son of John, do you love me?' Peter was upset that he asked him the third time, 'Do you love me?' and said, 'Lord, you know everything; you know I love you'. Jesus said to him, 'Feed my sheep......... John 21:15-19

Jesus raised his eyes to heaven and said: 'Holy Father, I pray not only for these, but for those also who through their words will believe i me. May they all be one. Father, may they be one in us, as you are in me an I am in you, so that the world may believe it was you who sent me. I have given them the glory you gave me, that they may be one as we are one. With me in thme and you in me, may they also be so comepletely one that the world will realise that it was you who sent me and that I have loved them as much as you loved me ....... Mass Reading

Jesus raised his eyes to heaven and said: 'Holy Father, keep those you have given  me true to your name, so that they may  be one like us. While I was with them, I kept those you had given me true to your name. I have watched over them and not one is lost except the one who chose to be lost, and this was to fulfil the  scriptures. But now I am coming to you and  while still in the world I say these things to share my joy with them to the full. I passed your word on to them, and the world hated them, because they  belong to the world no more than I belong to the world......  Mass Reading 

Saint Philip Neri Jesus raised his eyes to heaven and said, "Father, the hour has come. Give glory to your son, so that your son may glorify you, juas as you gave him authority over all people, so that your son may give eternal life to all you gave him. 'Now this is eternal life, that they should know you, the only true God, and the one whom you sent, Jesus Christ. I glorified you on earth by accomplishing the work that you gave me to do. The disciples said to Jesus, "Now you are talking plainly, and not in any figure of speech. Now we realize that you know everything and that you do not need to have anyone question you. Because of this we believe that you came from God." Jesus answered them, "Do you believe now? Behold, the hour is coming and has arrived when each of you will be scattered to his own home and you will leave me alone. But I am not alone, because the Father is with me.
