THE POWER AUTHORITY OF JESUS CHRIST

Prayer before Mass:

Almighty and ever-living God, I approach the sacrament of Your only-begotten Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ. I come sick to the doctor of life, unclean to the fountain of mercy, blind to the radiance of eternal light, and poor and needy to the Lord of heaven and earth. Lord, in Your great generosity, heal my sickness, wash away my defilement, enlighten my blindness, enrich my poverty, and clothe my nakedness. May I receive the Bread of Angels, the King of kings and Lord of lords, with humble reverence, with the purity and faith, the repentance and love, and the determined purpose that will help  to bring me to salvation.

May I receive the sacrament of the Lord’s Body and Blood, and its reality and power. Kind God, may I receive the Body of Your only-begotten Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, born from the womb of the Virgin Mary, and so be received into His mystical body and numbered among His members.

Loving Father, as on my earthly pilgrimage I now receive Your beloved Son under the veil of a  sacrament, may I one day see Him face to face in glory, who lives and reigns with You forever. Amen. By Knights of the Holy Eucharist.  Readings  Lectures  Reflection

I will raise up a prophet and put my words into his mouth
Moses said to the people: ‘The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet like myself, from among yourselves, from your own brothers; to him you must listen. This is what you yourselves asked of the Lord your God at Horeb on the day of the Assembly. “Do not let me hear again” you said “the voice of the Lord my God, nor look any longer on this great fire, or I shall die”; and the Lord said to me, “All they have spoken is well said. I will raise up a prophet like yourself for them from their own brothers; I will put my words into his mouth and he shall tell them all I command him. The man who does not listen to my words that he speaks in my name, shall be held answerable to me for it. But the prophet who presumes to say in my name a thing I have not commanded him to say, or who speaks in the name of other gods, that prophet shall die.”’

Give your undivided attention to God

I would like to see you free from all worry. An unmarried man can devote himself to the Lord’s affairs, all he need worry about is pleasing the Lord; but a married man has to bother about the world’s affairs and devote himself to pleasing his wife: he is torn two ways. In the same way an unmarried woman, like a young girl, can devote herself to the Lord’s affairs; all she need worry about is being holy in body and spirit. The married woman, on the other hand, has to worry about the world’s affairs and devote herself to pleasing her husband. I say this only to help you, not to put a halter round your necks, but simply to make sure that everything is as it should be, and that you give your undivided attention to the Lord.

Gospel

Unlike the scribes, he taught them with authority
Jesus and his disciples went as far as Capernaum, and as soon as the sabbath came he went to the synagogue and began to teach. And his teaching made a deep impression on them because, unlike the scribes, he taught them with authority.

In their synagogue just then there was a man possessed by an unclean spirit and it shouted, ‘What do you want with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are: the Holy One of God.’ But Jesus said sharply, ‘Be quiet! Come out of him!’ And the unclean spirit threw the man into convulsions and with a loud cry went out of him. The people were so astonished that they started asking each other what it all meant. ‘Here is a teaching that is new’ they said ‘and with authority behind it: he gives orders even to unclean spirits and they obey him.’ And his reputation rapidly spread everywhere, through all the surrounding Galilean countryside.

Father in heaven thank you for your love over all your creatures. Father you promised that you will raise a prophet and put your words in his mouth. Father your promise was fulfilled in Christ Jesus your Son.

Father for us to be in union with you and your Son Jesus, we must have undivided attention. We should commune with you. If we do, we will be free from every demonic attacks. We will be free from fear of oppression, fear from evil powers, demonic attacks and their agents ruling our universe. Freedom from every negativity that may endanger my well being.

Father for we know through the power of Jesus Christ our Lord and Saviour we are delivered and free. My Father in heaven thank you for loving me and all your creatures. Lord Jesus Christ my Lord thank you for loving me.

Abraham looked forward to a city founded and built by God
Only faith can guarantee the blessings that we hope for, or prove the existence of the realities that at present remain unseen. It was for faith that our ancestors were commended.

It was by faith that Abraham obeyed the call to set out for a country that was the inheritance given to him and his descendants, and that he set out without knowing where he was going. By faith he arrived, as a foreigner, in the Promised Land, and lived there as if in a strange country, with Isaac and Jacob, who were heirs with him of the same promise. They lived there in tents while he looked forward to a city founded, designed and built by God.

It was equally by faith that Sarah, in spite of being past the age, was made able to conceive, because she believed that he who had made the promise would be faithful to it. Because of this, there came from one man, and one who was already as good as dead himself, more descendants than could be counted, as many as the stars of heaven or the grains of sand on the seashore.

All these died in faith, before receiving any of the things that had been promised, but they saw them in the far distance and welcomed them, recognising that they were only strangers and nomads on earth. People who use such terms about themselves make it quite plain that they are in search of their real homeland. They can hardly have meant the country they came from, since they had the opportunity to go back to it; but in fact they were longing for a better homeland, their heavenly homeland. That is why God is not ashamed to be called their God, since he has founded the city for them.

It was by faith that Abraham, when put to the test, offered up Isaac. He offered to sacrifice his only son even though the promises had been made to him and he had been told: It is through Isaac that your name will be carried on. He was confident that God had the power even to raise the dead; and so, figuratively speaking, he was given back Isaac from the dead.

Responsorial Psalm
Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel! He has visited his people and redeemed them

Even wind and  the sea obey him

With the coming of evening, Jesus said to his disciples, ‘Let us cross over to the other side.’ And leaving the crowd behind they took him, just as he was, in the boat; and there were other boats with him. Then it began to blow a gale and the waves were breaking into the boat so that it was almost swamped. But he was in the stern, his head on the cushion, asleep. They woke him and said to him, ‘Master, do you not care? We are going down!’ And he woke up and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, ‘Quiet now! Be calm!’ And the wind dropped, and all was calm again. Then he said to them, ‘Why are you so frightened? How is it that you have no faith?’ They were filled with awe and said to one another, ‘Who can this be? Even the wind and the sea obey him.’

My Loving Father in heaven, it is so comforting to know that only faith can guarantee the blessings that I hope for, or prove the existence of the realities that at present remain unseen. It was for faith that our ancestors were commended.

Father thank you for your saving grace through faith. My life is in your hand Father. Our father in faith Abraham is the example I must follow. Trusting in your mercy to deliver me from every storm in my life.

Lord Jesus Christ, your are Emmanuel, God is with me. Help me remember your word 'It is I, do not fear' whenever I am facing problems and life battle, spiritual and physical. May I never waiver.  Help me remember the crossing of the red sea by Israelites how God led them through and delivered them.

My Father, my God in my life battle, in temptation, spiritual, physical forces beyond my understanding, may I always remember your supremacy. The power in the name of your beloved Son Jesus Christ my Lord. I maybe afraid, I may be weak I believe in your saving grace and power. Jesus Christ my Master, Lord I trust in you. . I believe in you, you are my LORD, my heart did not ask 'Who can this be? in my life storm. I only ask you Lord, give me strength to hold on to you. Trusting your saving power. Thank you Lord Jesus Christ for loving me.

We are the sort who keep faithful

Remember all the sufferings that you had to meet after you received the light, in earlier days; sometimes by being yourselves publicly exposed to insults and violence, and sometimes as associates of others who were treated in the same way. For you not only shared in the sufferings of those who were in prison, but you happily accepted being stripped of your belongings, knowing that you owned something that was better and lasting. Be as confident now, then, since the reward is so great. You will
need endurance to do God’s will and gain what he has promised.

Only a little while now, a very little while,
and the one that is coming will have come; he will not delay. The righteous man will live by faith,
but if he draws back, my soul will take no pleasure in him.
You and I are not the sort of people who draw back, and are lost by it; we are the sort who keep faithful until our souls are save
d.

Responsorial Psalm
The Salvation of the just comes from the Lord
GOSPEL
The Kingdom of God is a mustard seed growing into the biggest shrub of all
Jesus said to the crowds: ‘This is what the kingdom of God is like. A man throws seed on the land. Night and day, while he sleeps, when he is awake, the seed is sprouting and growing; how, he does not know. Of its own accord the land produces first the shoot, then the ear, then the full grain in the ear. And when the crop is ready, he loses no time: he starts to reap because the harvest has come.’

He also said, ‘What can we say the kingdom of God is like? What parable can we find for it? It is like a mustard seed which at the time of its sowing in the soil is the smallest of all the seeds on earth; yet once it is sown it grows into the biggest shrub of them all and puts out big branches so that the birds of the air can shelter in its shade.’

Using many parables like these, he spoke the word to them, so far as they were capable of understanding it. He would not speak to them except in parables, but he explained everything to his disciples when they were alone.

Heavenly Father, your word is transforming, It is encouraging. I may be encountering life battle. Most times it is like all hope is lost. I am about to renounce because the suffering is too much to bear. I know my salvation comes from you Lord. I believe your promise that only a little while now, you  will not delay in coming to my help. The righteous will live by faith, but if  I draws back, Father you  will take no pleasure in me. I must hold on to your word and promises. I must not draw back. I will keep faith in you for my salvation comes from you. May your word like the mustard seed grow in my heart, may it bear much fruit. Lord increase my faith. Lord Jesus Christ thank you for loving me.

Let us keep firm in the hope we profess

Through the blood of Jesus we have the right to enter the sanctuary, by a new way which he has opened for us, a living opening through the curtain, that is to say, his body. And we have the supreme high priest over all the house of God. So as we go in, let us be sincere in heart and filled with faith, our minds sprinkled and free from any trace of bad conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. Let us keep firm in the hope we profess, because the one who made the promise is faithful. Let us be concerned for each other, to stir a response in love and good works. Do not stay away from the meetings of the community, as some do, but encourage each other to go; the more so as you see the Day drawing near.

Responsorial Psalm
Such are the men who seek your face, O Lord

Gospel

A lamp is to be  put on a lampstand. The amount you measure out is the amount you will be given
Jesus said to the crowd, ‘Would you bring in a lamp to put it under a tub or under the bed? Surely you will put it on the lamp-stand? For there is nothing hidden but it must be disclosed, nothing kept secret except to be brought to light. If anyone has ears to hear, let him listen to this.’

He also said to them, ‘Take notice of what you are hearing. The amount you measure out is the amount you will be given – and more besides; for the man who has will be given more; from the man who has not, even what he has will be taken away.’

Lord Jesus Christ, you said the amount I measure out is the amount I will be given. Lord at times I could be judgmental, condemning my fellow creatures, failing to realize that it is by your grace I am who I am your Holy Spirit to guide my actions. Failing to see beyond my actions, am I truly sincere in my heart?  Give me a sincere heart filled with faith,  that my mind be sprinkled and free from any trace of bad conscience and my body washed with pure water.

Help Lord to be compassionate towards my fellow creatures, and to response in love and good works whenever I am tempted to be unkind, and unfair in my treatment. Lord whenever I hear anything concerning your creatures and conducts, may I not be quick to pass judgments for the measure I give same will be given unto me.

Lord Jesus Christ be merciful to me that as the day draw near, when I am to meet you, you will welcome me for it is your desire that I should not perish Lord. Thank you Lord Jesus Christ for loving me.

Jesus achieve the eternal perfection of all whom he is sanctifying

All the priests stand at their duties every day, offering over and over again the same sacrifices which are quite incapable of taking sins away. He, on the other hand, has offered one single sacrifice for sins, and then taken his place forever, at the right hand of God, where he is now waiting until his enemies are made into a footstool for him. By virtue of that one single offering, he has achieved the eternal perfection of all whom he is sanctifying. The Holy Spirit assures us of this; for he says, first:

This is the covenant I will make with them
when those days arrive;
and the Lord then goes on to say:
I will put my laws into their hearts
and write them on their minds.
I will never call their sins to mind,
or their offences.
When all sins have been forgiven, there can be no more sin offerings.
Responsorial Psalm
You are a priest for ever, a priest like Melchizedek of old

Gospel

The parable of the sower
Jesus began to teach by the lakeside, but such a huge crowd gathered round him that he got into a boat on the lake and sat there. The people were all along the shore, at the water’s edge. He taught them many things in parables, and in the course of his teaching he said to them, ‘Listen! Imagine a sower going out to sow. Now it happened that, as he sowed, some of the seed fell on the edge of the path, and the birds came and ate it up. Some seed fell on rocky ground where it found little soil and sprang up straightaway, because there was no depth of earth; and when the sun came up it was scorched and, not having any roots, it withered away. Some seed fell into thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked it, and it produced no crop. And some seeds fell into rich soil and, growing tall and strong, produced crop; and yielded thirty, sixty, even a hundredfold.’ And he said, ‘Listen, anyone who has ears to hear!’

When he was alone, the Twelve, together with the others who formed his company, asked what the parables meant. He told them, ‘The secret of the kingdom of God is given to you, but to those who are outside everything comes in parables, so that they may see and see again, but not perceive; may hear and hear again, but not understand; otherwise they might be converted and be forgiven.’ Mark 4:1-20

Lord Jesus Christ by virtue of your one single offering, you achieved the eternal perfection of all whom you are sanctifying. This is an assurance by the Holy Spirit. In remembrance of your command,

We offer Holy Mass for Thanksgiving because you love us. On the cross all sins have been forgiven, there can be no more sin offerings, but offerings of thanksgiving for our redemption.

Lord in today's parable, we have fallen on the way, but the beauty is realizing that we can rise and follow you. Our world is full of distractions and temptation. We are in need of material comfort, for our body. We ignore your word that will give life to our spirit, soul, mind and body.

Thank you Lord Jesus Christ that by your one single offering our hope of salvation is sure. Give us the grace Lord to follow. God's word and command is the secret of His Kingdom. May God's word reign in our hearts. Be with me Lord. Lord Jesus Christ I trust in your mercy and love.

Fan into a flame the gift God gave you

From Paul, appointed by God to be an apostle of Christ Jesus in his design to promise life in Christ Jesus; to Timothy, dear child of mine, wishing you grace, mercy and peace from God the Father and from Christ Jesus our Lord.

Night and day I thank God, keeping my conscience clear and remembering my duty to him as my ancestors did, and always I remember you in my prayers; I remember your tears and long to see you again to complete my happiness. Then I am reminded of the sincere faith which you have; it came first to live in your grandmother Lois, and your mother Eunice, and I have no doubt that it is the same faith in you as well.

That is why I am reminding you now to fan into a flame the gift that God gave you when I laid my hands on you. God’s gift was not a spirit of timidity, but the Spirit of power, and love, and self-control. So you are never to be ashamed of witnessing to the Lord, or ashamed of me for being his prisoner; but with me, bear the hardships for the sake of the Good News, relying on the power of God who has saved us and called us to be holy.

Responsorial Psalm
Proclaim the wonders of the Lord among all the peoples

Gospel

Who are my mothers and brothers? Those that do the will of God

The mother and brothers of Jesus arrived and, standing outside, sent in a message asking for him. A crowd was sitting round him at the time the message was passed to him, ‘Your mother and brothers and sisters are outside asking for you.’ He replied, ‘Who are my mother and my brothers?’ And looking round at those sitting in a circle about him, he said, ‘Here are my mother and my brothers. Anyone who does the will of God, that person is my brother and sister and mother.’

Lord Jesus Christ, today I want to pray for those who do not understand the role our Blessed Mother, the Blessed Virgin Mary played in the history of our salvation.  She said to the angel Gabriel Let it be done to me according to your word (the word of God, Christ  became flesh and the will of God). She accepted to be the mother of Jesus Christ our saviour.

Christ told the crowed that whoever that does the will of His Father in heaven is His Mother, and brother. If it be so, and we try to do the will of God, then we are the children of Mary, and so we are Christ brothers and sisters, God's children for we are  redeemed by Jesus Christ.  Help me Lord to understand the spiritual union of being a member of your family in doing the will of God our heavenly Father. Mary mother of Christ, my mother I honor you, like I honor my father and mother.

My Father in heaven your gift  to me was not a spirit of timidity, but the Spirit of power, and love, and self-control. My trust is my believe on your power to save me and make me holy. Lord come to my help, make me know your will.  Jesus I trust in you.

Saul, Saul why are you persecuting me
Paul said to the people, ‘I am a Jew and was born at Tarsus in Cilicia. I was brought up here in this city. I studied under Gamaliel and was taught the exact observance of the Law of our ancestors. In fact, I was as full of duty towards God as you are today. I even persecuted this Way to the death, and sent women as well as men to prison in chains as the high priest and the whole council of elders can testify, since they even sent me with letters to their brothers in Damascus. When I set off it was with the intention of bringing prisoners back from there to Jerusalem for punishment.

‘I was on that journey and nearly at Damascus when about midday a bright light from heaven suddenly shone round me. I fell to the ground and heard a voice saying, “Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me?” I answered: Who are you, Lord? and he said to me, “I am Jesus the Nazarene, and you are persecuting me.” The people with me saw the light but did not hear his voice as he spoke to me. I said: What am I to do, Lord? The Lord answered, “Stand up and go into Damascus, and there you will be told what you have been appointed to do.” The light had been so dazzling that I was blind and my companions had to take me by the hand; and so I came to Damascus.

‘Someone called Ananias, a devout follower of the Law and highly thought of by all the Jews living there, came to see me; he stood beside me and said, “Brother Saul, receive your sight.” Instantly my sight came back and I was able to see him. Then he said, “The God of our ancestors has chosen you to know his will, to see the Just One and hear his own voice speaking, because you are to be his witness before all mankind, testifying to what you have seen and heard. And now why delay? It is time you were baptised and had your sins washed away while invoking his name.”’

Responsorial Psalm
Go out to the whole world; proclaim the Good News

GOSPEL
Go out to the whole world, proclaim the good news

Jesus showed himself to the Eleven and said to them:

‘Go out to the whole world; proclaim the Good News to all creation. He who believes and is baptised will be saved; he who does not believe will be condemned. These are the signs that will be associated with believers: in my name they will cast out devils; they will have the gift of tongues; they will pick up snakes in their hands, and be unharmed should they drink deadly poison; they will lay their hands on the sick, who will recover.’

Heavenly Father, you are loving. You care for us that you do not wish anyone of us to perish.  You see the goodness in every creatures you have created in your image. Our Spirit man, is the image of you.  Thank you Father for your Son Jesus Christ. He came to set us free from bondage. He came to show us the way to you.

Loving Jesus, you see our hearts, our intention. You like the Father love us so much, that you see us through and through. Lord like Saint Paul, you keep pursuing us in love to bring us to you because you see the beauty in us, that our passion in ignorance could be transformed to goodness: To love you, to serve you in our fellow creature.  My Saviour you did not abandon Saint Paul because you knew his heart intention. You knew his willingness and passion to serve God.  The zeal in loving God, in encountering you, the same zeal he manifested in loving you and made you known to your creatures.

Lord do not abandon me. Transform me Lord.  Take pity on me Lord.
Thank you Jesus my Lord. Lord Jesus I trust in your mercy.

The people of Nineveh renounce their evil behaviour

The word of the Lord was addressed to Jonah: ‘Up!’ he said ‘Go to Nineveh, the great city, and preach to them as I told you to.’ Jonah set out and went to Nineveh in obedience to the word of the Lord. Now Nineveh was a city great beyond compare: it took three days to cross it. Jonah went on into the city, making a day’s journey. He preached in these words, ‘Only forty days more and Nineveh is going to be destroyed.’ And the people of Nineveh believed in God; they proclaimed a fast and put on sackcloth, from the greatest to the least.

God saw their efforts to renounce their evil behaviour, and God relented: he did not inflict on them the disaster which he had threatened.

Those who have wives should live as though they had none, and those who mourn should live as though they had nothing to mourn for; those who are enjoying life should live as though there were nothing to laugh about; those whose life is buying things should live as though they had nothing of their own; and those who have to deal with the world should not become engrossed in it. I say this because the world as we know it is passing away.

I will make you fishers of men

After John had been arrested, Jesus went into Galilee. There he proclaimed the Good News from God. ‘The time has come’ he said ‘and the kingdom of God is close at hand. Repent, and believe the Good News.’
As he was walking along by the Sea of Galilee he saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting a net in the lake – for they were fishermen. And Jesus said to them, ‘Follow me and I will make you into fishers of men.’ And at once they left their nets and followed him.

Going on a little further, he saw James son of Zebedee and his brother John; they too were in their boat, mending their nets. He called them at once and, leaving their father Zebedee in the boat with the men he employed, they went after him.

Loving \Father teach me your ways. Father I am sorry for many times I disobey your voice, your instructions.  Each moment you are pursuing me. My stubborn heart fails to obey.  When you speak to me, my conscience and your still voice speaks, I am so distracted by irrelevant things. I rather get engaged in activities that are opposed to your demand.  I am like Jonah who would not listen to your instruction.

Father the beauty of it all, is that you keep pursuing me through denial of things I cherish most.  My actions leads to consequences that I must bear.  I may keep wandering like Cain not finding my direction.  I am like the prodigal son that must suffer hunger and want to make me realize my sins. When I submit to you Father, you are ever ready to take me back and bless me with your gifts: spiritual, healing, deliverance, restoration and a better creature.  Lord do not abandon me, draw me nearer to you, make me know your ways. Thank you Lord Jesus Christ, my Lord and my Saviour.

CHRIST ENTERED THE SANCTUARY THROUGH HIS OWN BLOOD

Readings

He has entered the sanctuary once and for all through his own blood
There was a tent which comprised two compartments: the first, in which the lamp stand, the table and the presentation loaves were kept, was called the Holy Place; then beyond the second veil, an innermost part which was called the Holy of Holies.

But now Christ has come, as the high priest of all the blessings which were to come. He has passed through the greater, the more perfect tent, which is better than the one made by men’s hands because it is not of this created order; and he has entered the sanctuary once and for all, taking with him not the blood of goats and bull calves, but his own blood, having won an eternal redemption for us. The blood of goats and bulls and the ashes of a heifer are sprinkled on those who have incurred defilement and they restore the holiness of their outward lives; how much more effectively the blood of Christ, who offered himself as the perfect sacrifice to God through the eternal Spirit, can purify our inner self from dead actions so that we do our service to the living God.

Responsorial Psalm
God goes up with shouts of joy; the Lord goes up with trumpet blast

GOSPEL

Jesus' relatives were convinced he was out of his mind
Jesus went home, and once more such a crowd collected that they could not even have a meal. When his relatives heard of this, they set out to take charge of him, convinced he was out of his mind.

My loving Saviour, my Lord Jesus Christ, it is painful that your own relatives did not understand your mission earth to save humanity. You gave your time out of compassion to preach, minister, counsel, and heal an onerous task. Lord 24 hours was not enough, no time to rest, sleep and lay your tired head.

Your relatives were convinced Lord you were out of your mind failing to see that it was your SACRED HEART full of compassion was the reason you cared for all then, and till this moment Lord.

Lord give me the heart to forgive my family who misunderstood me and called me names. Give me a heart that see beyond human understanding, that I may know the pure intention of my fellow being. Those I do not understand instead of judging that I pray for enlightenment and pray for them. Bless my family Lord, bless all families. Thank you Lord Jesus Christ for loving me.
