IT IS LOVE THAT I DESIRE, NOT SACRIFICE

“God, be merciful to me, a sinner”

First Reading Hosea 6:1-6  'What I want is love, not sacrifice and holocausts'

Come, let us return to the Lord, it is he who has rent, but he will heal us; he has struck us, but he will bind our wounds. He will revive us after two days; on the third day he will raise us up, to live in his presence. Let us know, let us strive to know the Lord; as certain as the dawn is his coming, and his judgment shines forth like the light of day! He will come to us like the rain, like spring rain that waters the earth. 

What can I do with you, Ephraim? What can I do with you, Judah? Your piety is like a morning cloud, like the dew that early passes away. For this reason I smote them through the prophets, I slew them by the words of my mouth; for it is love that I desire, not sacrifice, and knowledge of God rather than burnt offerings.

Responsorial Psalm: 50 It is mercy I desire, and not sacrifice.

Gospel  Luke 18:9-14 'The tax collector, not the Pharisee, went home justified.'

Jesus spoke the following parable to some people who prided themselves on being virtuous and despised everyone else: ‘Two men went up to the Temple to pray, one a Pharisee, the other a tax collector. The Pharisee stood there and said this prayer to himself, “I thank you, God, that I am not grasping, unjust, adulterous like the rest of mankind, and particularly that I am not like this tax collector here. I fast twice a week; I pay tithes on all I get.” 

The tax collector stood some distance away, not daring even to raise his eyes to heaven; but he beat his breast and said, “God, be merciful to me, a sinner.” This man, I tell you, went home again at rights with God; the other did not. For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but the man who humbles himself will be exalted.’

God, my father in heaven, you are full of compassion. Be merciful to me a sinner. Father, you desire my love, to obey your command, and to love all your creatures. To love you, is better than sacrifice. A true love is a willing and contrite heart. Jesus, I trust in you. Virgin Mary, pray for me. Saint Joseph, pray for me. My angel guardian, pray for me. Pray the Rosary.

“Dieu, ayez pitié de moi, pécheur” 

Évangile Luc 18, 9-14 « Le publicain était devenu un homme juste, plutôt que l’autre »

En ce temps-là, à l’adresse de certains qui étaient convaincus d’être justes et qui méprisaient les autres,
Jésus dit la parabole que voici : « Deux hommes montèrent au Temple pour prier. L’un était pharisien, et l’autre, publicain (c’est-à-dire un collecteur d’impôts). Le pharisien se tenait debout et priait en lui-même : “Mon Dieu, je te rends grâce parce que je ne suis pas comme les autres hommes – ils sont voleurs, injustes, adultères –, ou encore comme ce publicain. Je jeûne deux fois par semaine et je verse le dixième de tout ce que je gagne.”

Le publicain, lui, se tenait à distance et n’osait même pas lever les yeux vers le ciel ; mais il se frappait la poitrine, en disant : “Mon Dieu, montre-toi favorable au pécheur que je suis !” Je vous le déclare : quand ce dernier redescendit dans sa maison, c’est lui qui était devenu un homme juste, plutôt que l’autre. Qui s’élève sera abaissé ; qui s’abaisse sera élevé. »

Dieu, mon Père qui es aux cieux, tu es plein de compassion. Aie pitié de moi, pécheur. Père, tu désires mon amour, que j'obéisse à ton commandement et que j'aime toutes tes créatures. T'aimer vaut mieux que le sacrifice. Le véritable amour est un cœur disposé et pénitent. Jésus, j'ai confiance en toi. Vierge Marie, priez pour moi. Saint Joseph, priez pour moi. Mon ange gardien, priez pour moi. Priez le Rosaire.
