'The Father is in me and I am in the Father.’
First Reading Jeremiah 20:10-13
He has delivered the soul of
the needy from the hands of evil men
Jeremiah said:
Gospel John 10:21-42 They wanted to
stone Jesus, but he eluded them
The Jews fetched
stones to stone him, so Jesus said to them, ‘I have done many good works for
you to see, works from my Father; for which of these are you stoning me?’ The
Jews answered him, ‘We are not stoning you for doing a good work but for
blasphemy: you are only a man and you claim to be God.
’ Jesus answered: ‘Is it not
written in your Law: I said, you are gods? So the Law uses the
word gods of those to whom the word of God was addressed, and
scripture cannot be rejected. Yet you say to someone the Father has consecrated
and sent into the world, “You are blaspheming,” because he says, “I am the son
of God.” If I am not doing my Father’s work, there is no need to believe me; but
if I am doing it, then even if you refuse to believe in me, at least believe in
the work I do; then you will know for sure that the Father is in me and I am in
the Father.’
They wanted to
arrest him then, but he eluded them. He went back again to the far side of the
Jordan to stay in the district where John had once been baptising. Many people
who came to him there said, ‘John gave no signs, but all he said about this man
was true’; and many of them believed in him.
My God, my Father, deliver me from the
hands of my enemies. Those who plot evil against me. Father, I have done them
no wrong. Father, I pray for their well-being. Father, their hatred I do not
understand. It is you O Lord that searches the heart of everyone. You know me
through and through. You know Father my heart my God.

Évangileselon saint Jean 10, 31-42 «
Ils voulaient lapider Jésus, mais il échappa à leurs mains »
Les
Juifs allèrent de nouveau chercher des pierres pour lapider Jésus. Celui-ci
prit la parole : « J’ai multiplié sous vos yeux les œuvres bonnes de la part du
Père. Pour laquelle voulez-vous me lapider ? » Les Juifs lui répondirent : « Ce
n’est pas pour une œuvre bonne que nous voulons te lapider, c’est parce que tu
blasphèmes : tu n’es qu’un homme, et tu prétends être Dieu. »
Jésus leur
répliqua : « Il est écrit dans votre Loi : J’ai dit : Vous êtes des dieux. Donc, ceux à qui la parole de Dieu s’adressait, la Loi les appelle des dieux ;
et l’Écriture ne peut pas être abolie. Or, celui que le Père a consacré et
envoyé dans le monde, vous lui dites : ‘Tu blasphèmes’, parce que j’ai dit
: Je suis le Fils de Dieu. Si je n’accomplis pas les œuvres de mon Père,
continuez à ne pas me croire. Mais si je les accomplis, quand bien même vous
refuseriez de me croire, croyez les œuvres. Ainsi vous reconnaîtrez, et de plus
en plus, que le Père est en moi, et moi dans le Père. »
Les Juifs cherchaient
de nouveau à l’arrêter, mais il leur échappa. Il repartit pour la
Transjordanie, à l’endroit où Jean avait commencé à baptiser. Et il y demeura.
Beaucoup vinrent à lui en déclarant : « Jean n’a pas accompli de signe ; mais
tout ce qu’il a dit au sujet de celui-ci était vrai. » Et à cet endroit
beaucoup crurent en lui.
Mon Dieu, mon
Père, délivre-moi des mains de mes ennemis, de ceux qui complotent contre moi.
Père, je ne leur ai fait aucun mal. Père, je prie pour leur bien-être. Père, je
ne comprends pas leur haine. C'est toi, Seigneur, qui sondes le cœur de chacun.
Tu me connais parfaitement. Tu connais, Père, mon cœur, mon Dieu.
