BLESSED ARE THE POOR IN SPIRIT

4TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME - YEAR A
God chose the foolish of the world to shame the wise

First Reading Zephaniah 2:3; 3:12-13 
In your midst I will leave a humble and lowly people
Seek the Lord, all you humble of the earth, who have observed his law; seek justice, seek humility; perhaps you may be sheltered on the day of the Lord's anger. But I will leave as a remnant in your midst a people humble and lowly, who shall take refuge in the name of the Lord: the remnant of Israel. They shall do no wrong and speak no lies; nor shall there be found in their mouths a deceitful tongue; they shall pasture and couch their flocks with none to disturb them.

Responsorial Psalm: Blessed are the poor in spirit; the kingdom of heaven is theirs!

Second Reading 1 Corinthians 1:26-31
God chose what is foolish by human reckoning, to shame the wise
Consider your own calling, brothers and sisters. Not many of you were wise by human standards, not many were powerful, not many were of noble birth. Rather, God chose the foolish of the world to shame the wise, and God chose the weak of the world to shame the strong, and God chose the lowly and despised of the world, those who count for nothing, to reduce to nothing those who are something, so that no human being might boast before God. It is due to him that you are in Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God, as well as righteousness, sanctification, and redemption, so that, as it is written, ‘Whoever boasts, should boast in the Lord’.

Gospel Matthew 5:1-12 How happy are the poor in spirit
When he saw the crowds, he went up the mountain, and after he had sat down, his disciples came to him. He began to teach them, saying: “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are they who mourn, for they will be comforted. Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the land. Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be satisfied. Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy. Blessed are the clean of heart, for they will see God. Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God. Blessed are they who are persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you when they insult you and persecute you and utter every kind of evil against you falsely because of me. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward will be great in heaven. Thus they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

Évangile Matthieu 5,1-12 «Heureux les pauvres de cœur»
Quand Jésus vit la foule, il gravit la montagne. Il s'assit, et ses disciples s'approchèrent. Alors, ouvrant la bouche, il se mit à les instruire. Il disait: «Heureux les pauvres de coeur: le Royaume des cieux est à eux! Heureux les doux: ils obtiendront la terre promise! Heureux ceux qui pleurent: ils seront consolés! Heureux ceux qui ont faim et soif de la justice: ils seront rassasiés! Heureux les miséricordieux: ils obtiendront miséricorde! Heureux les coeurs purs: ils verront Dieu! Heureux les artisans de paix: ils seront appelés fils de Dieu! Heureux ceux qui sont persécutés pour la justice: le Royaume des cieux est à eux! Heureux serez-vous si l'on vous insulte, si l'on vous persécute et si l'on dit faussement toute sorte de mal contre vous, à cause de moi. Réjouissez-vous, soyez dans l'allégresse, car votre récompense sera grande dans les cieux! C'est ainsi qu'on a persécuté les prophètes qui vous ont précédés».

I Seek your face my Lord, my God. I long for your heavenly kingdom. My help comes from you. I have no other gods. You alone are God. Jesus, I trust in you. Lord I am not afraid for you are with me. Thank you for revealing the secrets to happiness. Virgin Mary, pray for me. Saint Joseph, pray for me. My Angel Guardian, pray for me. Pray the Rosary.

Je cherche ta face, Seigneur, mon Dieu. J'aspire à ton royaume céleste. Mon secours vient de toi. Je n'ai pas d'autres dieux. Toi seul es Dieu. Jésus, j'ai confiance en toi. Seigneur, je n'ai pas peur car tu es avec moi. Merci de m'avoir révélé les secrets du bonheur. Vierge Marie, priez pour moi. Saint Joseph, priez pour moi. Mon ange gardien, priez pour moi. Priez le Rosaire.

BE CURED

Prayer before Mass:  Almighty and ever-living God, I approach the sacrament of Your only-begotten Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ. I come sick to the doctor of life, unclean to the fountain of mercy, blind to the radiance of eternal light, and poor and needy to the Lord of heaven and earth. Lord, in Your great generosity, heal my sickness, wash away my defilement, enlighten my blindness, enrich my poverty, and clothe my nakedness.
