YOU ARE PETER ON THIS ROCK I WILL BUILD MY CHURCH
Prayer before Mass: Almighty and ever-living God, I approach the sacrament of Your only-begotten Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ. I come sick to the doctor of life, unclean to the fountain of mercy, blind to the radiance of eternal light, and poor and needy to the Lord of heaven and earth. Lord, in Your great generosity, heal my sickness, wash away my defilement, enlighten my blindness, enrich my poverty, and clothe my nakedness. May I receive the Bread of Angels, the King of kings and Lord of lords, with humble reverence, with the purity and faith, the repentance and love, and the determined purpose that will help to bring me to salvation.
May I receive the sacrament of the Lord’s Body and Blood, and its reality and power. Kind God, may I receive the Body of Your only-begotten Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, born from the womb of the Virgin Mary, and so be received into His mystical body and numbered among His members.
Loving Father, as on my earthly pilgrimage I now receive Your beloved Son under the veil of a sacrament, may I one day see Him face to face in glory, who lives and reigns with You forever. Amen. By Knights of the Holy Eucharist. Readings Lectures Reflection
First Reading First Peter 5:1-4
Now I have something to tell your elders: I am an elder myself, and a witness to the sufferings of Christ, and with you I have a share in the glory that is to be revealed. Be the shepherds of the flock of God that is entrusted to you: watch over it, not simply as a duty but gladly, because God wants it; not for sordid money, but because you are eager to do it. Never be a dictator over any group that is put in your charge, but be an example that the whole flock can follow. When the chief shepherd appears, you will be given the crown of unfading glory.
Responsorial Psalm
The Lord is my shepherd: there is nothing I shall want
Gospel Acclamation Matt. 16:18
Glory and praise to you, O
Christ!
You are Peter,
and on this rock I will build
my Church.
And the gates of the
underworld can never hold out against it.
Glory and praise to you, O
Christ!
Gospel Matthew 16:13-19
You are Peter and on this rock I will build my Church When Jesus came to the region
of Caesarea Philippi he put this question to his disciples, ‘Who do people say
the Son of Man is?’ And they said, ‘Some say he is John the Baptist, some
Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.’ ‘But you,’ he said ‘who do
you say I am?’ Then Simon Peter spoke up, ‘You are the Christ,’ he said ‘the
Son of the living God.’ Jesus replied, ‘Simon son of Jonah, you are a happy
man! Because it was not flesh and blood that revealed this to you but my Father
in heaven. So I now say to you: You are Peter and on this rock I will build my
Church. And the gates of the underworld can never hold out against it. I will
give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven: whatever you bind on earth shall be
considered bound in heaven; whatever you loose on earth shall be considered
loosed in heaven.’
All Powerful Father, you have built your Church on the rock of Saint Peter's confession of faith. May nothing divide or weaken our unity in faith and love. Grant this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who live and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.
The Prayer of the Church
My Confession: Lord Jesus Christ you are my Lord and Saviour. I Love and Adore You. Thank you for your saving grace, thank you for loving me. Lord Jesus Christ I trust in you. Be with me my Lord and Saviour.
