THE WORD BECAME FLESH

FRIDAY SEVENTH DAY WITHIN THE OCTAVE OF CHRISTMAS
PRAYER FOR DAILY NEGLECTS: THE HOLY ONE
Eternal Father, I offer thee the Sacred Heart of Jesus, with all its Love, all its sufferings and all its merits.

First: To expiate all the sins I have committed this day and during all my life. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit……

Second: To purify the good I have done badly this day and during all my life. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit……

Third:
To supply for the good I ought to have done, and that I have neglected this day and during all my life, Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit…… Pieta

First Reading 1 John 2 :18-21

You have been anointed by the Holy One

Children, these are the last days; you were told that an Antichrist must come, and now several antichrists have already appeared; we know from this that these are the last days. Those rivals of Christ came out of our own number, but they had never really belonged; if they had belonged, they would have stayed with us; but they left us, to prove that not one of them ever belonged to us.

But you have been anointed by the Holy One, and have all received the knowledge. It is not because you do not know the truth that I am writing to you but rather because you know it already and know that no lie can come from the truth.

Responsorial Psalm: Let the heavens rejoice and earth be glad

Gospel Acclamation
Alleluia, alleluia!
The Word became flesh, and dwelt among us.
To all who received him he gave power to become children of God.
Alleluia!

Gospel  John  1:1-18

The Word was made flesh, and lived among us

In the beginning was the Word: and the Word was with God and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things came to be, not one thing had its being but through him. All that came to be had life in him and that life was the light of men, a light that shines in the dark, a light that darkness could not overpower.

A man came, sent by God. His name was John. He came as a witness, as a witness to speak for the light, so that everyone might believe through him. He was not the light, only a witness to speak for the light. The Word was the true light that enlightens all men; and he was coming into the world.

He was in the world that had its being through him, and the world did not know him. He came to his own domain and his own people did not accept him. But to all who did accept him he gave power to become children of God, to all who believe in the name of him who was born not out of human stock or urge of the flesh or will of man but of God himself.

The Word was made flesh, he lived among us, and we saw his glory, the glory that is his as the only Son of the Father, full of grace and truth. John appears as his witness. He proclaims:

‘This is the one of whom I said: He who comes after me ranks before me because he existed before me.’ Indeed, from his fullness we have, all of us, received – yes, grace in return for grace, since, though the Law was given through Moses, grace and truth have come through Jesus Christ.

No one has ever seen God; it is the only Son, who is nearest to the Father’s heart, who has made him known. John appears as his witness. He proclaims: ‘This is the one of whom I said:

He who comes after me ranks before me because he existed before me.’  Indeed, from his fullness we have, all of us, received – yes, grace in return for grace, since, though the Law was given through Moses, grace and truth have come through Jesus Christ. No one has ever seen God; it is the only Son, who is nearest to the Father’s heart, who has made him known.

Father in heaven, God of mercy and compassion. Loving Father, thank you for your Son Jesus Christ. The Word made flesh. He is Immanuel. Thank you Father for forgiveness through Christ the glory of  all your creatures. Jesus Christ is the annointed One. He is the Holy One. He is the Word. He is Light. He is the Glory of God. He is our Salvation.

Christ you were born into the world at the fulness of time to save mankind and to give freedom to every creature, we ask you to extend the liberty of our sonship in you to a people. Prayer of the Church

Lord Jesus I trust in you. Jesus, Mary and Joseph pray for me.  God's Holy Angels pray for me. My Guardian Angel pray for me. Protect me, guide and guard me. Pray the Holy Rosary.

OBEYING GOD'S WILL

SIXTH DAY WITHIN THE OCTAVE OF CHRISTMAS
PRAYER FOR DAILY NEGLECTS: GOD'S LAW
Eternal Father, I offer thee the Sacred Heart of Jesus, with all its Love, all its sufferings and all its merits.

First: To expiate all the sins I have committed this day and during all my life. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit……

Second: To purify the good I have done badly this day and during all my life. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit……

Third: To supply for the good I ought to have done, and that I have neglected this day and during all my life, Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit…… Pieta

First Reading 1 John 2 :12-17

Observance of the will of God
I am writing to you, my own children, whose sins have already been forgiven through his name. I am writing to you fathers who have come to know the one who has existed since the beginning. I am writing to you young men who have already overcome the Evil One.

I have written to you children because you already know the Father.  I have written to you fathers because you have come to know the one who has existed since the beginning. I have written to you young men because you are strong and God’s word has made its home in you.

You have overcome the Evil One. You must not love this passing world or anything that is in the world. The love of the Father cannot be in any man who loves the world. Nothing the world has to offer the sensual body, the lustful eye.  Pride in possessions could ever come from the Father but only from the world, and the world with all it craves for is coming to an end. Anyone who does the will of God remains for ever.

Responsorial Psalm: Let the heavens rejoice and earth be glad

Gospel Acclamation
Alleluia, alleluia!
A hallowed day has dawned upon us.
Come, you nations, worship the Lord,
for today a great light has shone down upon the earth.
Alleluia!

Gospel  Luke 2:36-40

Anna speaks of the child to all who looked forward to the deliverance of Jerusalem
There was a prophetess, Anna the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was well on in years. Her days of girlhood over, she had been married for seven years before becoming a widow. She was now eighty-four years old and never left the Temple, serving God night and day with fasting and prayer. She came by just at that moment and began to praise God. She spoke of the child to all who looked forward to the deliverance of Jerusalem.

When they had done everything the Law of the Lord required, they went back to Galilee, to their own town of Nazareth. Meanwhile the child grew to maturity, and he was filled with wisdom; and God’s favour was with him.

Father in heaven thank you for your Son Jesus Christ. May your Holy Will be done in our lives. Give us the grace to accept your loving plan in our lives. Help us adhere to your will. May your Holy Spirit dwell in us to guide us in obeying your law through Jesus Christ our Lord. G.H.

Father give us a heart that is upright and sincere, so that we may listen to your word, and bring it to perfection in ourselves and in the world for the sake of your glory.

All-powerful God, may the human birth of your Son free us from the former slavery to sin and bring us new life. We ask through our Lord Jesus Christ. Prayer of the Church

Lord Jesus I trust in you. Jesus Mary and Joseph pray for us. God's Holy Angels pray for us. My Angel Guardian pray for me, protect me. Be my guide and my guard.

Pray the Holy Rosary: May our Mother Blessed Virgin  Mary, Mother of our Saviour Jesus Christ intercede for us.

LIGHT OF THE NATIONS

JESUS CHRIST PRESENTATION
PRAYER BEFORE HOLY MASS Act of  Love before Mass
O my God, I love Thee with all my heart, with all my soul, with all my strength and with no other desire than to
be inseparably united to Thee. It is through Thy Divine Son that this union is about to be realized within me. In Holy Communion I long to identify myself with Him, that it will no longer be myself, but Him, who lives in me; and when I have received Jesus within myself, then I shall love and be loved by Thee in that same measure, in which I am united to Him. Hasten then, to give me Thy Divine Son, at the hands of Thy priest, that through Jesus, I may unite myself forever to Thee, O God the Father, in the unity of the Holy Spirit. Readings Lectures Reflection St Thomas
First Reading 1 John 2:3-11

Anyone who loves his brother is living in the light

We can be sure that we know God only by keeping his commandments. Anyone who says, ‘I know him’, and does not keep his commandments, is a liar, refusing to admit the truth. But when anyone does obey what he has said, God’s love comes to perfection in him.

We can be sure that we are in God only when the one who claims to be living in him is living the same kind of life as Christ lived. My dear people, this is not a new commandment that I am writing to tell you, but an old commandment that you were given from the beginning, the original commandment which was the message brought to you.

Yet in another way, what I am writing to you, and what is being carried out in your lives as it was in his, is a new commandment; because the night is over and the real light is already shining.

Anyone who claims to be in the light but hates his brother is still in the dark. But anyone who loves his brother is living in the light and need not be afraid of stumbling; unlike the man who hates his brother and is in the darkness, not knowing where he is going, because it is too dark to see.

Responsorial Psalm: Let the heavens rejoice and earth be glad

Gospel Acclamation

Alleluia, alleluia!
A light to enlighten the pagans
and the glory of your people Israel.
Alleluia!

Gospel Luke 2:22-35

'You have prepared a light to enlighten the pagans'

When the day came for them to be purified as laid down by the Law of Moses, the parents of Jesus took him up to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord observing what stands written in the Law of the Lord:

Every first-born male must be consecrated to the Lord,

and also to offer in sacrifice, in accordance with what is said in the Law of the Lord, a pair of turtledoves or two young pigeons.

Now in Jerusalem there was a man named Simeon. He was an upright and devout man; he looked forward to Israel’s comforting and the Holy Spirit rested on him. It had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not see death until he had set eyes on the Christ of the Lord.

Prompted by the Spirit he came to the Temple and when the parents brought in the child Jesus to do for him what the Law required, he took him into his arms and blessed God; and he said:

‘Now, Master, you can let your servant go in peace, just as you promised;
because my eyes have seen the salvation
which you have prepared for all the nations to see, a light to enlighten the pagans
and the glory of your people Israel.’

As the child’s father and mother stood there wondering at the things that were being said about him, Simeon blessed them and said to Mary his mother, ‘You see this child: he is destined for the fall and for the rising of many in Israel, destined to be a sign that is rejected and a sword will pierce your own soul too so that the secret thoughts of many may be laid bare.’

Father in heaven thank you for the gift of your Son Jesus Christ the glory of your people Israel. Thank you for fulfilling your plan to save humanity through your Son Jesus Christ the Light of all nations. He is the glory of all humanity. Thank you God our Father for your mercy, for your enduring love, for your goodness, for your faithfulness, for your compassion, for your protection and for your grace. Christ be our Light, shine in our world.

All glory to God the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, now and for ever.  Lord Jesus Christ I trust in you. Virgin Mary pray for me. Saint Joseph pray for me. God's Holy Angels pray for me. My Angel Guardian pray for me, protect me. Guard and guide me.

Pray the Holy Rosary. May the Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph intercede on our behalf through Jesus Christ our Lord.

THE FLIGHT TO EGYPT

THE MASSACRE OF THE INNOCENTS
PRAYER TO OBTAIN THE GRACE OF ALL WORLD’S MASSES
Eternal Father we humbly offer thee our poor presence and that of the whole humanity from the beginning to the end of the world at all the masses that ever have or ever will be prayed. We offer thee all the pains, suffering, prayers, sacrifices, joy and relaxations of our lives in union with those of our dear Lord Jesus here on earth.

May the Most Precious Blood of Christ, all his blood and wounds and agony save us through the sorrowful and immaculate Heart of Mary. Amen St. Philomena pray for us.

First Reading 1 John 1:5-2:2

The blood of Jesus Christ purifies us all from sin
This is what we have heard from Jesus Christ, and the message that we are announcing to you: God is light; there is no darkness in him at all. If we say that we are in union with God while we are living in darkness, we are lying because we are not living the truth. But if we live our lives in the light, as he is in the light, we are in union with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.

If we say we have no sin in us, we are deceiving ourselves and refusing to admit the truth;
but if we acknowledge our sins, then God who is faithful and just will forgive our sins and purify us from everything that is wrong. To say that we have never sinned is to call God a liar and to show that his word is not in us.

I am writing this, my children, to stop you sinning; but if anyone should sin, we have our advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ, who is just; he is the sacrifice that takes our sins away, and not only ours, but the whole world.

Responsorial Psalm: Our life, like a bird, has escaped from the snare of the fowler

Gospel Acclamation Te Deum
Alleluia, alleluia!
We praise you, O God,
we acknowledge you to be the Lord;
the noble army of martyrs praise you, O Lord.
Alleluia!

Gospel Matthew 2:13-18

The massacre of the innocents
After the wise men had left, the angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream and said, ‘Get up, take the child and his mother with you, and escape into Egypt, and stay there until I tell you, because Herod intends to search for the child and do away with him.’ So Joseph got up and, taking the child and his mother with him, left that night for Egypt, where he stayed until Herod was dead. This was to fulfil what the Lord had spoken through the prophet:
I called my son out of Egypt.

Herod was furious when he realised that he had been outwitted by the wise men, and in Bethlehem and its surrounding district he had all the male children killed who were two years old or under, reckoning by the date he had been careful to ask the wise men. It was then that the words spoken through the prophet Jeremiah were fulfilled:

A voice was heard in Ramah,
sobbing and loudly lamenting:
it was Rachel weeping for her children,
refusing to be comforted because they were no more.

Our life, like a bird, has escaped from the snare of the fowler. Heavenly Father we come to you for protection knowing that we have enemies who are not happy in our success, our progress and our existence. Father protect every child  from evil, abuse and infant abortion. Protect their lives from danger, from every societal ills. We pray for the departed souls of all children.

Father you will always intervene in every situations in our lives, you saved your Son Jesus Christ through Saint Joseph his foster father. May he intercede on our behalf through Jesus Christ our Lord. Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph pray for us. Intercede for all families. May there be peace, love and unity in all families. Father in heaven grant your us peace. Blood of Jesus purify  us.

PRAYER TO ST. JOSEPH

O St. Joseph whose protection is so great, so strong, so prompt before the throne of God. I place in you all my interests and desires. O St. Joseph do assist me by your powerful intercession and obtain for me from your Divine Son all spiritual blessings through Jesus Christ, our Lord: so that having engaged here below your heavenly power I may offer my thanksgiving and homage to the most loving of fathers.

O St. Joseph, never weary contemplating you and Jesus asleep in your arms I dare not approach while he reposes near your heart. Press him in my name and kiss his fine head for me, and ask him to return the kiss when I draw my dying breath.

Lord Jesus I trust in you. Virgin Mary pray for me. Saint Joseph pray for me. Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph pray for all families. God's Holy Angels protect me, My Angel Guardian guide and guard me. Pray for me.

THE WORD IS LIFE OUR SUBJECT

SAINT JOHN, APOSTLE, EVANGELIST
PRAYER TO OBTAIN THE GRACE OF ALL WORLD’S MASSES
Eternal Father we humbly offer thee our poor presence and that of the whole humanity from the beginning to the end of the world at all the masses that ever have or ever will be prayed. We offer thee all the pains, suffering, prayers, sacrifices, joy and relaxations of our lives in union with those of our dear Lord Jesus here on earth.

First Reading 1 John 1 :1-4

The Word, who is life - this is our subject

Something which has existed since the beginning, that we have heard, and we have seen with our own
eyes; that we have watched and touched with our hands: the Word, who is life, this is our subject.

That life was made visible: we saw it and we are giving our testimony, telling you of the eternal life which was with the Father and has been made visible to us. What we have seen and heard we are telling you so that you too may be in union with us, as we are in union with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ. We are writing this to you to make our own joy complete

Responsorial Psalm: Rejoice you just,  in the Lord

Gospel Acclamation
Alleluia, alleluia!
We praise you, O God,
we acknowledge you to be the Lord.
The glorious company of the apostles praise you, O Lord.
Alleluia! cf Te Deum

Gospel John 20:2-8

The other disciple saw, and he believed
On the first day of the week Mary of Magdala came running to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one Jesus loved. ‘They have taken the Lord out of the tomb’ she said ‘and we don’t know where they have put him.’

So Peter set out with the other disciple to go to the tomb. They ran together, but the other disciple, running faster than Peter, reached the tomb first; he bent down and saw the linen cloths lying on the ground, but did not go in. Simon Peter who was following now came up, went right into the tomb, saw the linen cloths on the ground, and also the cloth that had been over his head; this was not with the linen cloths but rolled up in a place by itself.

Then the other disciple who had reached the tomb first also went in; he saw and he believed.

Lord Jesus Christ you existed since the beginning. We have heard the good news, and we believe you are the Son of God Most High. Christ you are the Word made flesh, who is life. We celebrate your coming into our world. You are the saviour of the world. Christ be our Light.

Lord Jesus Christ I trust in you. Virgin Mary pray for me. Saint Joseph pray for me. Saint John the Evangelist pray for me. God's Holy Angels pray for me. My Angel Guardian pray for me. Guide me, guard and protect me.

PRAYER TO OBTAIN THE GRACE OF ALL WORLD’S MASSES
Eternal Father we humbly offer thee our poor presence and that of the whole humanity from the beginning to the end of the world at all the masses that ever have or ever will be prayed. May the Most Precious Blood of Christ, all his blood and wounds and agony save us through the sorrowful and immaculate Heart of Mary. Amen St. Philomena pray for us. Readings Lectures Reflection

 First Reading  1 Samuel 1:20-22,24-28

This is the Child I prayed for ; he is made over to the Lord
Hannah conceived and gave birth to a son, and called him Samuel ‘since’ she said ‘I asked the Lord for him.’

When a year had gone by, the husband Elkanah went up again with all his family to offer the annual sacrifice to the Lord and to fulfil his vow. Hannah, however, did not go up, having said to her husband, ‘Not before the child is weaned. Then I will bring him and present him before the Lord and he shallstay there for ever.’

When she had weaned him, she took him up with her together with a three-year-old bull, an ephah of flour and a skin of wine, and she brought him to the temple of the Lord at Shiloh; and the child was with them. They slaughtered the bull and the child’s mother came to Eli. She said, ‘If you please, my lord. As you live, my lord, I am the woman who stood here beside you, praying to the Lord. This is the child I prayed for, and the Lord granted me what I asked him. Now I make him over to the Lord for the whole of his life. He is made over to the Lord.’

They are happy who dwell in your house, O Lord

Second Reading 1 John 3:1-2,21-24

We are called God's children, and that is what we are
Think of the love that the Father has lavished on us, by letting us be called God’s children;
and that is what we are. Because the world refused to acknowledge him, therefore it does not acknowledge us. My dear people, we are already the children of God but what we are to be in the future has not yet been revealed; all we know is, that when it is revealed we shall be like him because we shall see him as he really is.

My dear people, if we cannot be condemned by our own conscience, we need not be afraid in God’s presence, and whatever we ask him, we shall receive, because we keep his commandments and live the kind of life that he wants. His commandments are these: that we believe in the name of his Son Jesus Christ and that we love one another as he told us to. Whoever keeps his commandments lives in God and God lives in him. We know that he lives in us by the Spirit that he has given us.

Gospel Acclamation
Alleluia, alleluia!
Open our heart, O Lord,
to accept the words of your Son.
Alleluia! cf.Act.16:14

Gospel Luke 2:41-52

Every year the parents of Jesus used to go to Jerusalem for the feast of the Passover
When he was twelve years old, they went up for the feast as usual. When they were on their way home after the feast, the boy Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem without his parents knowing it. They assumed he was with the caravan, and it was only after a day’s journey that they went to look for him among their relations and acquaintances. When they failed to find him they went back to Jerusalem looking for him everywhere.

Three days later, they found him in the Temple, sitting among the doctors, listening to them, and asking them questions; and all those who heard him were astounded at his intelligence and his replies. They were overcome when they saw him, and his mother said to him, ‘My child, why have, you done this to us? See how worried your father and I have been, looking for you.’

‘Why were you looking for me?’ he replied. ‘Did you not know that I must be busy with my Father’s affairs?’ But they did not understand what he meant.

He then went down with them and came to Nazareth and lived under their authority.   His mother stored up all these things in her heart. And Jesus increased in wisdom, in stature, and in favour with God and men.

Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph pray for us.  Lord Jesus Christ I trust in you. Virgin Mary pray for us. Saint Joseph pray for us. God's Holy Angels pray for us. My Guardian Angel pray for me. Protect me, guide and guard me.

Readings Lectures Reflection  Readings for 25th Dec. 2021

First Reading Isaiah 9:1-7

A Son is given to us
The people that walked in darkness has seen a great light; on those who live in a land of deep shadow a light has shone. You have made their gladness greater, you have made their joy  increase; they rejoice in your presence as men rejoice at harvest time, as men are happy when they are dividing the spoils. For the yoke that was weighing on him, the bar across his shoulders, the rod of his oppressor, these you break as on the day of Midian. For all the footgear of battle, every cloak rolled in blood, is burnt, and consumed by fire.

For there is a child born for us, a son given to us and dominion is laid on his shoulders; and this is the name they give him: Wonder-Counsellor, Mighty-God, Eternal-Father, Prince-of-Peace. Wide is his dominion in a peace that has no end, for the throne of David and for his royal power, which he establishes and makes secure in justice and integrity. From this time onwards and for ever, the jealous love of the Lord of Hosts will do this.

Responsorial Psalm
Today a saviour has been born to us: he is Christ the Lord

Second Reading Titus 2:11-14

God's grace has been revealed to the whole human race
God’s grace has been revealed, and it has made salvation possible for the whole human race and taught us that what we have to do is to give up everything that does not lead to God, and all our worldly ambitions; we must be self-restrained and live good and religious lives here in this present world, while we are waiting in hope for the blessing which will come with the Appearing of the glory of our great God and saviour Christ Jesus. He sacrificed himself for us in order to set us free from all wickedness and to purify a people so that it could be his very own and would have no ambition except to do good.

Gospel Acclamation Luke 2:10-11
Alleluia, alleluia!
I bring you news of great joy:
today a saviour has been born to us, Christ the Lord.
Alleluia!

Gospel Luke 2:1-14

'In the town of David a saviour has been born to you'
Caesar Augustus issued a decree for a census of the whole world to be taken. This census – the first – took place while Quirinius was governor of Syria, and everyone went to his own town to be registered. So Joseph set out from the town of Nazareth in Galilee and travelled up to Judaea, to the town of David called Bethlehem, since he was of David’s House and line, in order to be registered together with Mary, his betrothed, who was with child. While they were there the time came for her to have her child, and she gave birth to a son, her first born. She wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger because there was no room for them at the inn.

In the countryside close by there were shepherds who lived in the fields and took it in turns to watch their flocks during the night. The angel of the Lord appeared to them and the glory of the Lord shone round them. They were terrified, but the angel said, ‘Do not be afraid. Listen, I bring you news of great joy, a joy to be shared by the whole people. Today in the town of David a saviour has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord. And here is a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in swaddling clothes and lying in a manger.’

And suddenly with the angel there was a great throng of the heavenly host, praising God and singing:

‘Glory to God in the highest heaven, and peace to men who enjoy his favour.’

Glory to God in the highest heaven. Loving Father thank you for your faithfulness, mercy and love. All glory to you God our Father.  We that  walked in darkness have seen a great light. Those who live in a land of deep shadow a light has shone. You have made our gladness greater, you have increased our joy. God’s grace has been revealed, and it has made salvation possible for the whole human race  by the coming of your Son Jesus Christ.  Thank you God our Father, to you be all glory through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Lord Jesus Christ my Lord, my Saviour I love you. Jesus I trust in you. Virgin Mary pray for me. Saint Joseph pray for me. God's Holy Angels pray for me. My Angel Guardian pray for me. Protect me, guide and guard me.

Hail Mary full of Grace: Pray the Holy Rosary.
